Project Impact

The 21St Century Community Learning Centers program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low performing schools. The program: helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

The purpose of the 21st CCLC program is to provide opportunities for communities to establish or expand activities that focus on:  

1. Improved academic achievement
2. Enrichment services that reinforce and complement the academic program, and,
3. Family literacy and related educational development services

Franklin County School District supports three 21st CCLC after school programs through Project Impact.  They are located in Apalachicola at the Apalachicola High School , Apalachicola Bay Charter School , and the LOVE Centerplex.  After school services are provided free of charge and include homework help, targeted tutoring, educational enhancement, recreational activities, and field trips through the academic year with a full-time program in the summer weeks.  

Additionally, Project Impact supports adult education, English as a second language education, and GED training and testing through the Franklin County Literacy Center in Eastpoint.
